VARCHONESuch pathetic justification. You claim humility, yet you do not hesitate to play the part of judge, jury and executioner. By what right do you wear these robes? CORWINYou know my powers, Varchone, better than anyone. I can see the evil in men's minds. They confess of their own accord whether they mean to or not.Varchone snorts in disgust. He looks around him.
VARCHONESo I see you have taken to hiding behind the skirts of mortals, Corwin. Are the years catching up with you? CORWINThey are about to catch up with you, Varchone. Why didn't you just kill him yourself. CORWINVarchone has eluded me for over two hundred years. His power grew very quickly. A long time ago he learned how to hide his mind from me. Then a hundred years ago I underestimated him and he almost killed me. I was burned very badly. It took me that long to recuperate... In the end I did what I thought had to be done. AGATHAAnd Cindy is dead. CORWINAnd thousands of others, Mother. Some of them very dear to me. The killing is at an end. DANIs it? You're still around. You're just like him. JULIA
