At the end of my tenure in Tingri tragedy struck in the form of Zhang Deng Kong. Zhang was one of the many thugs who did business in the Golden Triangle. He was a heroin smuggler and a blatant psychopath. He had worn out his welcome in most of southern China and was growing desperate for waypoints to route his poison. He rode into Tian Men with twenty of his well-armed thugs and terrorized the town.
